About

Founded in 2024, Dimly Writ is an independent international literary and arts publication run by two dedicated friends Helen Anderson and Khoi (Thomas) Tran. We aim to create a space where we can break down barriers and explore new ideas through writing, promoting new voices and writers shaping contemporary literature. Founded to amplify both emerging and established writers, the journal publishes work that spans continents.

Contributors to Dimly Writ have been featured in Poetry, Rattle, North American Review, New World Writing, Paterson Literary Review, and Amazing Stories. Their accolades include Pushcart Prize nominations, international poetry awards such as The Aurora Prize, and authorship of acclaimed books from presses including Frontenac House, Leaf by Leaf Press, Sagging Meniscus Press, and Shanti Arts. The journal has published novelists, prize-winning short story writers, editors of international magazines, and translators whose works have appeared in more than a dozen languages.

Our contributors’ work has been recognized by institutions and publications worldwide, from BBC Radio to PoznaÅ„ Art Week, from the California State University system to Buddhist Poetry Review. Many have been celebrated by prizes and fellowships, and some serve as cultural leaders—abbots, scientists, musicians, funeral directors, and activists—whose art reflects lives that reach beyond the page.

With contributors recognised by international presses, prize committees, and literary organisations across Europe, North America, and Asia, Dimly Writ is a meeting ground between debut, nascent voices and established voices, producing a catalogue that is boundary-spanning.

We accept submissions from anywhere in the world, as long as the work is original. We look for writing that is both innovative and personal, especially writing from teenagers and young people. All future editions will be free to access on this website.

We are run by all volunteers and are always looking for people to join us as editors, designers, or volunteer readers. If you are interested in working with us, please email us at dimlywritlit@gmail.com with the subject line (The Position You Want to Apply For) Application.
